The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL) is the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, focusing on a diverse set of critical issues including the lasting effects of decolonization, reviewing UN-run peacekeeping missions such as those in the Middle East, and other issues that the United Nations classifies as special political matters. These include topics such as the effects of atomic radiation, international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space, and global mine action. This beginner-level committee is tailored for delegates interested in global peace and security, post-colonial justice, and emerging international challenges. SPECPOL is the perfect chance to help shape the global agenda and discuss unique international challenges with the aim to further world peace!
TOPIC: Addressing the Long-Term Effects of Colonial Borders on Modern-Day Syria

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The conference takes place regularly, typically annually, to review and assess climate goals. Delegates will convene to discuss the transition into clean energy and its complexities, which are often wrongly trivialised. This beginner-level committee will offer an exciting blend of sustainability, development, and some technical knowledge. As countries with very heterogeneous needs, delegates will negotiate with one common ambition: to be carbon-free. Take this chance to be part of the next Kyoto Protocol or Paris Agreement!
TOPIC: Defining Pathways Towards a Global Energy Transition
Chaired by Julius Höflich & Tessa Wägner
Coordinated by our Academic Director Martín Tabares de Nava Zárate
The Arctic Council is the leading international platform for promoting cooperation, coordination and interaction among the Arctic States, Arctic Indigenous Peoples, and other Arctic inhabitants on common regional issues, in particular those pertaining to sustainable development and environmental protection in the Arctic. As a consensus-based forum, it fosters dialogue on issues ranging from climate change and biodiversity to maritime safety and Indigenous rights, without becoming entangled in hard security matters. Its unique structure, where Permanent Participants represent Indigenous communities alongside Member States, makes it one of the most inclusive and collaborative bodies in international diplomacy. The Arctic Council is therefore the perfect committee for intermediate delegates to further polish their diplomatic skills with an Arctic twist!
The Kingdom of Denmark will hold the chairmanship during CBSMUN, offering delegates a rare opportunity to simulate this distinctive forum while stepping into the shoes of policymakers in the very country currently leading it. Prepare for an engaging and realistic experience centered on regional diplomacy, environmental governance, and Arctic cooperation at the highest level.

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) addresses a wide range of global issues spanning economic, social, and environmental concerns. It fosters international cooperation and promotes development, ensuring that growth is inclusive while advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. ECOSOC offers participants the opportunity to develop a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected nature of global economics and social issues, encouraging practical and innovative ideas that can make a difference. This committee is well suited for delegates interested in the intersection of economic and social affairs. Serving as a bridge between beginner and advanced levels, it is ideal for intermediate participants seeking to refine their diplomatic skills and expand their understanding of global governance and development frameworks.

Delegates will engage in debates to develop solutions for pressing issues in international aviation, such as the impact of planes on the environment. Working together to keep civil aviation safe, sustainable, and sky-bound. This committee operates on an intermediate level, welcoming both newcomers and more experienced delegates. It serves as a stepping stone for those wishing to deepen their skills and knowledge in the area of civil aviation. ICAO is the place to let your diplomacy take flight!

The United Nations Security Council is the UN‘s highest most important organ, and is responsible for maintaining international peace and security. It can proactively investigate conflicts and disputes, recommend resolution methods, deploy peacekeeping missions, and has the exclusive power of imposing sanctions. Its resolutions are binding on all member states, and involve intense and dynamic debates, thanks to the infamous veto powers of the five permanent members of the Council and intense topics at hand. The UNSC is therefore ideal for experienced delegates ready to engage in fast-paced discussions on high-stakes issues, requiring sharp negotiation skills and a deep understanding of diplomacy. From navigating geopolitical rivalries to responding to emerging crises, delegates in this committee will tackle some of the most urgent and complex challenges on the global agenda. Few other forums provide such a direct insight into the mechanics of power politics and international law.

The Euro Group is an informal body where the finance ministers of the euro area, meaning the EU countries that use the euro, meet to discuss matters related to their currency and economic governance. In this forum, countries prepare decisions and align their positions before they are officially adopted by the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN). It became particularly prominent during the Eurozone debt crisis, when it played a central role in negotiating bailouts for the banking sectors of multiple eurozone countries. Delegates in this committee, which operates on an expert level, will convene in a very tense setting, to make important economic decisions with far-reaching repercussions. As non-UN committee, it gives delegates the chance to challenge themselves with different power dynamics and intricacies.
For CBSMUN 2026 it will be historical and be set in 2015.
Join the Eurogroup and play the role of a finance minister, shaping the economic and monetary future of Europe!
